Oh, very well said! You have the right level of respect for "dusters" and I like your approach to dusting. You are right about the older dusters making for more exciting sport. I think I detect in your writing the feelings of a kindred spirit. ;)
We had a good meet on Bank Holiday Monday and, after twenty minutes of to-ing and fro-ing, treed a large duster at Toller Fratrum. It climbed very high and, rather inconsiderately, refused to be shaken down so we kept it treed while someone fetched a gun. While it was being bayed it looked like a dog duster it was so big, but when the hounds had their reward it proved to be a bitch. She had clearly had her litter - so we were on the lookout for the rest of her brood on the way back. We might have an extra evening meet there to try and flush them out.
If they do go to ground we usually have terriers and spades with us. My motto is never give best to the little blighters - and when one gets away it is merely work in progress!
Your comment about DUSTER HUNTING, on Whittam's page, creased me up. We had a successful "duster" hunt on Bank Holiday Monday and I'll be after them again twice in the next week. ;)
