Supporting Dogged Resistance

One phrase that leaps quite high to mind over the US elections is 'Do we care?'

Give the democrats a black man and a white woman to vote for and they fight like cats.

Republicans have chosen a running mate of a ..........shocking a younger woman, but as I say do we care?

What is interesting is that the US is split virtually 50:50 between supporters of republicans and democrats. And I do care about good oratory. It's been a long time gone and its refreshing to see a master practitioner at work.

Well indeed, good Oratory is excellent, something slacking with our current PM, much as I despised the man Bliar was a good (not excellent) public speaker.

all i care about is what happens over there comes over here ,but as far as policy of each side , i'd vote republican .

We all should care as what happens in America has a knock on effect for the rest of the world. They have had eight years of mis-government by a man who can`t string two words togather it`s time,I think,to give good oratory a chance.

What? A black man in charge of a nation with a chip on his shoulder! Good idea.

i find it hard to believe that in a population as diverse as theirs...those 2 are the best they have managed to find for a president!!!

Indeed and already the four candidates are not representatitve of the population..........none of them are fat.

Odd that in such a so called liberal country people are pretending to be shocked that a 17 year old girl is pregnant.

North America is a deeply foreign place, that just happens to speak more or less the same language as us. I like my infrequent visits there (managed four days in Quebec last December) but I actually feel more at home in Continental Europe, more in common with the French or Germans or Dutch or Flemish...
Never mind pregnancy, what about booze? In the States it's much cheaper than here of course, though like most things booze in Canada is much more expensive (they inherited Brit habits re taxation), but I can still recall vividly an instructive experience years ago in rural Ontario. After a long and satisfying day sniping groundhogs with my heavy-barrel 22-250 I pulled into a roadside restaurant and asked for a cold beer; the waitress gave me a disapproving look (as who should say, Who is this degenerate Limey alcoholic creep...) and said, "This is a FAMILY restaurant, Sir!" I mean, who gives a toss, I thought - is the sight of a man drinking cold beer liable to corrupt & deprave minors? Weird! But many of our practises must seem at least as weird to them.
BTW which of our current crop of politicians do you consider representative of the population?
Planning another Canadian trip for next summer, hope to do some fishing & hunting.

Its not about 'whether' they represent our views its whether we stand for what they stand for, and people change 11 years go most people thought that Blair was the answer, now they don't, Maggie was the answer and her own (my party) kicked her out.

I am not ex public school but Cammers is my man now, Howard never was, Hague was, Major was ok.......

Yanks are mad its ok to run around carrying a gun but don't drink a beer or drive over 56 mph? But if you do drive for ages being chased by 50 police cars and then get shot. Freedon except if you have a beard and look like an arab then they will ship you off to Cuba, but Chinese human rights oh sir they are so bad!
